In the summer of 2014, Chelsea decided to loan Torres to AC Milan.
The hope was that he could rediscover his form in another country.
Unfortunately for him, he failed in Milan. The striker only scored 1 goal in 1 goal in 10 games
His career seemed over.
That's when Atletico came calling.
They saved the player who have rescued them from the second division all those years ago.
The local boy was coming home.
His Time at Atletico
Torres' second stint at Atletico was vastly different from his first spell.

The team had wisely invested and now boasted some of the top talent in the world. They had just won the Spanish league in the previous season.
​
As a result, Torres was only a squad player.
​
He scored 38 goals in 75 appearances. This was a better ratio then in his time at Chelsea. But he didn't reach the heights he had at Liverpool.
​

He also won the Europa League in 2018. His first and only trophy with his boyhood club.

Leaving for the Final Time
'Why are we Atleti?' they ask us many times. It is difficult to explain. Remember the feelings of pride and happiness of belonging to a big family through the bad times when they want to break us up. It has been a proud honour and a privilege to wear this shirt and play with this group of footballers. You have made me the happiest person in the world.
